Papermaking

The process of making paper involves pulling a screen (also called a mould and deckle) through
a slurry of paper pulp. We then lay it on a felt, decorate and manipulate it in a variety of ways,
press and dry it. This method can be used to
create colorful compositions, or decorative
papers to be used for cards, collage,
or bookbinding. Everybody loves it,
its good clean sloppy fun.
Batik

Batik is a process involving several steps
of applying hot wax to a fabric and dyeing it.
Every place the wax goes, the dye does not,
so it is used to preserve those areas in the
color of the garment before the dye. When the
piece dries, we apply more wax and dye it again, and again, until the desired
image is created.

Printmaking

A printmaking class or series of classes can
include a variety of methods, such as linoleum
or wood cuts, both single and multi color, as
well as various other plate materials such as styrofoam or potato prints.
Beadwork

We can explore colors and patterns with
beads both on the loom and off, and at the
same time we can get a glimpse of how beads
were used traditionally by various
Native American nations.

Sculpture

I offer a variety of sculptural methods. One is
paper casting, which involves sculpting in clay, making a mold with plaster, and packing the
mold with paper pulp. This technique can be
used for maskmaking, Egyptian cartouches,
and individual or collaborative relief pieces.
We can also make mobile sculptures, ceramics, puppets or several other possibilities.
Drawing and Painting

We can explore the elements and principles
of design, including color theory, one and two
point perspective, face and figure proportions,
etc., while developing ways to express
ourselves visually from within.

Ceramics

We create anything from pinch pots and coiling
to hand-built sculptures, focusing on the
qualities and techniques of clay and how it
can be used to express ourselves.
Other Media
Other projects include mosaic, weaving,
bookbinding, found object or mixed media
collage and more.
